On 7 January 2021 the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) announced the commencement of the
competitive procedure for determining the reference price for renewable energy source (RES) project
operational support. This new cycle was launched by RAE Decision 1648/2020 of 28 December 2020 on a joint
competitive bidding procedure for the selection of the photovoltaic and wind plants which will be included in
the operation support scheme (OJ Β’ 5760/2020). Applications to participate in the auctions may be submitted
until 22 March 2021. The relevant online auction is scheduled for 24 May 2021.
The joint competitive bidding procedure involves photovoltaic stations with an installed capacity of up to
20MW (PPV ≤ 20MW), as well as wind farms with a maximum production capacity of up to 50MW (PWIND ≤
50MW). The maximum auctioned power is set at 350MW. The initial reference price corresponds to the
maximum allowed bid price, which is set at €53.86 per megawatt hour. The competition percentage is set at
100%, meaning that in order to auction the maximum power of 350MW provided for in the tender invitation,
the submitted offers must cumulatively equate to 700MW.
