This article highlights key developments in Greece’s legislative framework for floating photovoltaic stations (FPVs) following the adoption of Law 5151/2024. Building on Law 4951/2022, which facilitated pilot offshore FPV installations and simplified licensing for projects up to 1 MW, the new law introduced significant reforms.
The updated framework expands installation opportunities to lake reservoirs and artificial lakes outside the NATURA 2000 network. It allows for larger projects, with a maximum capacity of 8 MW per station and an overall capacity of 80 MW, while implementing fast-track licensing procedures. Interested parties must submit applications by May 2025, adhering to strict timelines for environmental approvals and grid connection agreements.
Additionally, the law offers a second chance for projects that missed deadlines, resetting compliance schedules and reinforcing Greece’s commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure.
